Program Notes
The American Frontier takes listeners back in time. The piece opens with the sunrise over the canyon, where the music illustrates views of majestic landscapes, from rolling prairies to rugged mountains and rushing rivers. The pioneers awaken and the energy grows as they venture out singing and whistling tunes back and forth to each other. The pioneers encounter thieves on their journey, with havoc and conflict erupting between the two groups. The thieves are eventually chased off, leaving the pioneers victorious. They celebrate their success before continuing with their expedition out into the furthest reaches of The American Frontier.
