The Moonlit Lake
for Solo Piano
Program Notes
The Moonlit Lake depicts a secluded lake lit by the moon’s gaze above it. Fog is present from the start, shrouding the hidden beauty with many dissonances and blurred harmony. As the piece continues and starts to climax, the mist slowly retreats and the crystal-clear water begins to shine brightly under the moon's light. The shroud slowly returns over the lake, obscuring vision once again to return it to its original state. The moon’s light tries to pierce the fog but cannot come through, leaving behind a blanket of white mist as the night goes on.
