Program Notes

Pi is a mathematical constant where it is defined as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. It is probably one of the most recognized mathematical symbols to date with all the many uses it has in the different fields of STEM research. The question that sparked the creation of A Groovy Pi was, “What if the numbers of Pi represented a specific note in music?” After conducting some research, one of the decimal expansions of Pi resembled the blues scale, which then transformed into the groovy bass line that is the heart and soul of A Groovy Pi. The piece is intended to be as much fun for the performers as it is for the audience to listen to, with many jazzy themes that you will remember for the rest of the night.
